Cobleskill Slips Past Women's Soccer On Senior Day

The Wells College women's soccer team capped its 2018 season with a 3-2 loss against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Wells Turf Field. It was Senior Day for the Express, and seven seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game.

The Wells seniors are Madison Beriman, Kayleigh Hurley, Mackenzie Maloney, Autumn McLain, Miranda Mingen, Tayler Nichols, and Carley Ryan.

The back-and-forth game saw Wells rally from two deficits before eventually falling by a one-goal margin.

Cobleskill opened the scoring in the first half on a 23rd minute goal, but Wells responded in the final three minutes of the first half. Mackenzie Maloney went in and scored an unassisted goal, her ninth goal of the year. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime.

The Fighting Tigers went back ahead in the second half, but Wells tied the score less than a minute later. Carley Ryan scored off of a corner-kick delivery from Maloney and it was tied 2-2. It was the third goal of the year for Ryan.

Cobleskill scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute.

Wells goalkeeper Kayleigh Hurley made 11 saves. Cobleskill held a narrow 21-16 advantage in shots. Wells had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
