Women’s Soccer Team’s Late Rally Falls Short

The Wells College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to visiting Gallaudet University on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle with neither team scoring. The Bison broke the scoreless deadlock in the second half and built a three-goal lead. Wells College's Maeghan Westmiller got the Express on the board late in the second in an attempt to spark a possible rally. Mackenzie Powers received an assist on the play.

Wells College held the shot advantage by a 17-16 count in an all but even contest that saw both teams receive four corner kicks. Wells goalkeeper Jennifer McCumber had some big saves for the Express including a pair of one-on-one encounters to keep the contest within striking distance for her teammates.

The offense has picked up in recent contests with goals in three of the last four starts. The women's soccer team next travels to Penn State-Abington on Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 2 p.m. start.
