Women's Swimming Posts 65-57 Victory Over Utica


AURORA, N.Y. –
The Wells College women's swimming team posted a 65-57 victory over the Pioneers of Utica College Saturday afternoon at the Wells College Aquatic Center. With the victory, the Express improve to 2-1 overall in head-to-head action while the Pioneers fall to 0-4 on the season.

The Express captured seven points in their first event of the afternoon, the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay. The squadron of freshman Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.), freshman Meghan Terry (Delmar, N.Y.), junior Gabby Spencer (Trumansburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) turned in a combined relay time of 2:05.42, edging the Pioneers team by four seconds.

Touron continued to factor into the Express' early success, defeating Jordan Hess of Utica by only .05 seconds in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle. Touron trailed Hess near the midpoint of the race by only .17 seconds and was able to successfully overcome the deficit to claim victory.

Feudale set a personal-high mark in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke, recording a time of 1:08.35 in the event. Her time also ranks her fourth all-time in program history. Feudale combined with Touron in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle event, claiming a total of eight combined points for the Express. Touron trailed Feudale by only .01 second.

Sophomore Hallie Hanson (Ashville, N.Y.) and Hayley Bloom (New Brunswick, N.J.) were the next Express pair to place first and second, respectively, with only a minimal margin separating the two times. In the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle, Hanson posted a time of 1:09.02 with Bloom trailing by only .02 seconds.

Spencer placed first in the Women's 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:32.88, ahead of Feudale by just over one second. Spencer and Terry were also able to collect first and second place, respectively, in the Women's 200 Yard Individual Medley to ensure the Express would secure first place entering the final match of the afternoon. Spencer led all competitors through 50 yards with a time of 32.76 – she would go on to post a time of 2:32.18. Terry placed second, finishing in 2:38.20.
