Women’s Swimming Soars Over Screaming Eagles

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Wells College women's swimming team posted a 52-43 victory over the Screaming Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Express boast an overall record of 3-1 while the Screaming Eagles fall to 0-1 in the season's early goings.

Through the first two events, the Soaring Eagles were able to capture first place in both the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay and the Women's 1,000 Yard Freestyle events, capturing a 12-4 lead. The Express, however, were able to rebound as Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) placed first in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle race, posting a time of 2:24.78 to earn five points for her team.

Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) narrowly edged the Soaring Eagles' Veronica Lubsen in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, posting a time of 27.69, capturing first place by just under one second. Feudale once again came up large for the Express, earning first place in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:11.16 to collect an additional five points. Feudale's 100 Yard Backstroke time ranks her eighth all-time in program history in that event.

Wells was able to put the Soaring Eagles away for good, however, in the day's final two events. Freshman Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.) posted first place in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke, recording a time of 1:25.63 while the Express foursome in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay came through with a time of 2:00.69 in the day's final event. Canales and the Express relay team were able to earn 12 points in the final two events, securing the team's victory over the Soaring Eagles.

The Express return to action Saturday, Dec. 1 as they travel to face-off against SUNY Cobleskill and Gallaudet University at 1:00 p.m. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the Wells College athletic department by "liking" us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/WellsExpress) and subscribing to our Twitter account (http://www.twitter.com/WellsExpress).
