Women's Swimming Nets Eighth Head-to-Head Victory vs. Cazenovia

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's swimming programs were in action on Saturday, competing against the Herons of William Smith College and the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in a triangular swim meet. The Wells women were able to secure a 120-85 victory over the Wildcats despite falling to the host Herons by a 111-67 score. The men's program at Wells fell to Cazenovia by a 111-41 margin.

The women's swimming team at Wells finishes their regular season calendar of meets with an overall record of 8-5, tying their program record of eight victories with the 2012-13 Express squad. In their last 24 meets, the Express have accumulated an overall record of 16-9 while securing back-to-back North Eastern Athletic Conference championships. The Wells men's swimming program concludes their season with a 1-9 overall record in head-to-head meets.

Senior Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) picked up a first place finish for the Express on the afternoon, completing the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:02.24. Junior Tyler Fischetti (Weedsport, N.Y.) also earned a gold finish, posting a 500 Yard Freestyle time of 5:54.50.

Sophomore Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) got the afternoon started off strong for the women's squad, netting a second place finish in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 12:30.38. She later added a second place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:02.92, trailing the first place finisher by 12 seconds.

Freshman Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.) picked up second place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:20.12. Junior Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) was the third member of the Express to net a second place finish on the afternoon, completing the 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:02.65.

Freshman Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, posting a time of 1:07.78 to finish just over two seconds behind Stef Schmitz of William Smith. The foursome of sophomore Stephanie Todd (Norwich, N.Y.), Daniels, senior captain Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y.) and freshman Amelia Flint (Bath, N.Y.) rounded out the Wells finishes on the afternoon, placing first with a time of 2:00.44 in the event.

Wells men's and women's swimming will look to repeat as North Eastern Athletic Conference champions this Friday, Feb. 14 as they begin the league's championship meets on the campus of Cazenovia College. Stay tuned to the Wells College Athletics website for more information!
