Women's Swimming Edged On Senior Day

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's swimming team posted a 72-46 loss to the visiting Bengals from Buffalo State College on Saturday at the Aquatic Center. With the loss, Wells dips to 1-7 overall on the season while Buffalo State earns its first head-to-head win of the year.

Senior Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) posted a first place finish in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, registering a time of 12:42.83. Junior Gina Ross-Detro (Geneva, N.Y.) added a first place finish of her own in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:23.77).

Quinn Griswold (Alpine, N.Y.) followed with an additional top finish for the Express, posting a time of 1:10.39 in the 100 Yard Backstroke to win by a decisive nine-plus second margin. Griswold also captured a second place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:33.02).

Freshman Courtney Cloutier (West Springfield, Mass.) earned a first place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:32.53, career-best) and secured two second place finishes in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:09.58) and the 100 Yard Individual Medley (1:10.81).

Sophomore Kaitlyn Schwend (San Marcos, Calif.) picked up another first place time for Wells, completing the 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:04.44 before a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:22.77).

Seniors Daniels, Griswold and Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.) were recognized with a pre-meet ceremony to honor their contributions to the program during their tenure.

Wells returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 13 as it travels to Alfred University to take on the host Saxons and NCAA Division II Le Moyne College in a high noon meet.
