Women's Swimming Turns In Solid Efforts At First Dual Meet

The Wells College women's swimming team recorded two first-place finishes in its first dual-meet of the season at Buffalo State on Saturday, Oct. 22. The host Bengals won the dual by a score of 153-85.

Shannon Simmons won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.41 and Gina Ross-Detro placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:20.52.

Wells started the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:13.60 by the team of Shannon Simmons, Gina Ross-Detro, Courtney Cloutier, and Emily Cooper.

Asa Cade swam 14:52.39 in the 1,000-yard freestyle to take second place, and was second in the 500 free in 7:13.79.

Simmons was second (2:27.54) and Cooper was third (2:38.51) in the 200-yard freestyle. Ana Bozeat was second in the 50-yard backstroke in 45.36 seconds.

Ross-Detro took second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 36.48 seconds, just six-tenths behind the first-place swimmer from Buffalo State.

Cloutier was second in the 50-yard butterfly in 30.58 seconds and in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:10.52.
