Women's Swimming Picks Up First Victory of the Season

The Wells College women's swimming team earned its first dual-meet victory of the season with a 51-37 victory over visiting Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Schwartz Athletic Center Pool. Wells won both relays and four individual events.

Prior to the meet, senior captain Gina Ross-Detro was recognized for her contributions to the Express over her career by head coach Trish George and Ross-Detro's teammates.

Wells started the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as Shannon Simmons, Ross-Detro, Kaitlyn Schwend, and Courtney Cloutier clocked in at 2:09.57.

Simmons went on to earn individual event victories in the 50-yard freestyle (28.35 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (1:04.08). Schwend won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.37 and Cloutier took first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.18.

The Express closed the meet with an unopposed victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay by the quartet of Ana Bozeat, Asa Cade, Emily Cooper, and Destiny Rivera.

Wells is back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Schwartz Center against Penn State-Altoona.
