Women's Swimming Looks To Make A Splash At NEAC Championships
The Wells College women's swimming team will take the starting blocks beginning Friday morning for the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Cazenovia College.
Wells enters the championship meet after finishing second in the team standings in the 2016 championship meet. Wells has previously won NEAC titles in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
In last year's meet, Courtney Cloutier was named as the meet's Rookie of the Year following individual event championship wins in the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley. Kaitlyn Schwend won the 200-yard butterfly in the 2015 championship. Each of those swimmers ranks on the program's top-10 list in multiple events. Cloutier is the school record holder in the 200-yard individual medley.
Gina Ross-Detro, a senior, has turned in numerous all-conference performances over her career and ranks in the top-10 in Wells history individually in the 100-yard individual medley and both distances of the breaststroke.
The Wells lineup will also include freshmen Anna Bozeat, Asa Cade, Caroline Kelemen and Shannon Simmons with sophomores Emily Cooper, Chasity Daniels and Destiny Rivera.
The three-day meet will consist of preliminary heats beginning each day at 10 a.m. Event finals will take place beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. Sunday.
A video webstream of all six sessions is available from Cazenovia College.
Admission to the event is $3 per session, or $5 per day. Meet programs will be sold for $3 and heat sheets will be available for $1 each.
