NEAC Honors Wells Swimming Senior

Wells College women's swimming senior Kaitlyn Schwend was named as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 3, 2017.

Schwend won two individual events, placed second in another, and was part of a winning relay as the Express earned a dual-meet victory at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Schwend won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:34.59 and took first-place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:42.08) by finishing 1:05.28 ahead of the second-place swimmer. Rounding out individual competition, Schwend placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.00. The Wells College senior also swam a strong butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay that placed first with a time of 2:22.42 to top the rest of the field by 11.92 seconds.

Schwend is a biology major from San Marcos, Calif. It is the first NEAC weekly award of the 2017-18 season for Wells swimming.

Wells defeated NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill 152-82 in a dual-meet. The meet was contested at the Cobleskill pool, which will host the conference championship meet Feb. 16-18, 2018. Wells returns to competitive action Jan. 13 with a tri-meet hosted by Pitt-Bradford that also includes Buffalo State.
