Wells Swimming Teams Set Sights On NEAC Championships

The Wells College women's and men's swimming teams are taking part in the 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship meet this weekend, hosted by SUNY Cobleskill at the Bouck Hall Natatorium.

The three-day championship meet begins Friday, Feb. 16 and continues through Sunday, Feb. 18. Preliminary rounds each day will begin at 10 a.m. and event finals will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday's championship heats at 4:45.

The psych sheets for the meet have several Wells swimmers ranked among the top-five in their respective events for the championship meet.

Friday's events include the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relay. Kaitlyn Schwend is seeded fourth in the women's 500 free and Owen May is seeded fourth and Brandon Sprague is seeded fifth in the men's 500 free. Courtney Cloutier is the third seed in the women's 200 IM and three men's swimmers – Arthur Brooks, Ian Ronan, and Shawn Snell – are in the top-five seeds in the men's 200 IM. The men's 400-yard medley relay is seeded fourth.

Saturday's events are the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 800-yard freestyle relay. The Wells men are seeded fourth in the 200 MR. Cloutier is seeded third in the 400 IM. Three Wells swimmers are the top-three in the 400 IM with Brooks, Richard Ford, and Shawn Snell sending qualifying seed times. Schwend is seeded first in the women's 100 fly and May is the fifth seed in the men's 100 fly. Owen May is fourth and Brandon Sprague is fifth in the men's 200 free. Cloutier is fourth in the women's 100-yard breaststroke. Ian Ronan is third seed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke and Aaron Connolly is fifth in the 100 breast. Shannon Simmons is the third seed in the women's 100-yard backstroke. Wells men are seeded fourth in the 800 free relay.

Sunday's final day events include the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and 400-yard freestyle relay. Ian Ronan is the fifth seed in the men's 100 IM. Simmons is third and Anna Bozeat is fifth seed in the 200-yard backstroke. Shawn Snell is seeded second in the men's 200 back. Simmons is seeded fourth in the women's 100 free and May is fifth in the men's 100 free. Cloutier is seeded third in the 200-yard breaststroke, and the men's trio of Ronan, Brooks, and Connolly are seeded second, third, and fourth in the men's 200 breaststroke. Schwend is the top seed for the women's 200 fly and Ford is the third seed on the men's side of the 200 fly. In the 1,650 free, Anna Bozeat is seeded fifth for women and Owen May is third and Brandon Sprague is fourth for the men's 1,650 free.

Admission to the event will be $5 per day for adults and $3 per day for students. Children younger than 5-years-old will be admitted free of charge.
