Women’s Swimming Team Opens Home Season Against Oswego

The Wells College swimming teams paid tribute to Thomas Laier during its season-opening meet against visiting Oswego State on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Laier was recently lost to the Wells Community after being a vital part of its men's swimming team up until his graduation in 2014. The former team captain's name can be found on the Wells College swimming records board in the Wells Natatorium.

Against the Lakers, the Wells College women's swimming team dropped a 59-36 contest. In three races, Wells' women's swimmers were 10 seconds or less from victory.

Hailey Onofre twice came within five seconds of victory in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time in the IM was 2:59.71 and her time in the breaststroke was 1:26.28. In the 200-yard freestyle, Saoirse Murphy-Collins was about 10 seconds off the lead with a time of 2:20.92.

The women's swimming team next hosts Gallaudet University on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a 1 p.m. start.
