Simmons Garners NEAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Wells College senior Shannon Simmons helped the women's swimming team to a North Eastern Athletic Conference victory Saturday, Nov. 9 against visiting Gallaudet University by a 75-43 score.

Simmons participated in three races and each time came away as a first-place finisher. While two were individual events, the third was part of a relay team.

The senior captain won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events in individual competition. Her time in the 100-yard back was 1:19.19 and 2:29.67 in the 200-yard back. The senior also helped the Express take the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:20.49.

Simmons and the rest of the Wells College swimming teams will take part with several other colleges and universities in the 'Hour of Power Relays' later today between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to support Cancer awareness. Non-swimmers are welcome to swim or cheer on their friends at the Wells College Natatorium. Entry to the event will begin at 4 p.m.
