CLEAN SWEEP FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS

Aurora, NY –The Wells College women's tennis team made their mark on the NEAC conference this weekend defeating defending champion Penn. St. Berks 5-4 on Friday. The Express lost to Berks in the NEAC final just a year ago.

It was an intense match that came down to the last match of evening, #5 singles senior Sharmilee Nuli and Berks #5 player Steph Williams. Nuli won the match in three sets 7-6, 3-6, and 6-2 to clinch the conference victory.

The Express entered single's match play down 2-1 and needed four singles wins to clinch the victory. #1 Cat Abrego, #2 Ana Riley, #3 Ali Nolan, and #5 Nuli all won their respective matches to catapult the Express to victory.

All four matches went three sets with the Express taking the last set by a combined score of 24-3.

Saturday afternoon was a day for the record books as senior Ali Nolan became the all-time leader in singles wins with 19. Adding to the record, Nolan's victory was the clinching match for the Express as they narrowly defeated Penn St. Abington 5-4.

Earning victories on the day were #2 Doubles Ali Nolan and Sarah Hansen and # 3 Doubles Sharmilee Nuli and Ayaho Otsu while singles Sharmilee Nuli and Sarah Hansen earned wins for the Express.

With the two victories the Express improve to 4-2 (3-1 NEAC) and will next travel NEAC rival Keuka College on Monday, April 13th, at 4:00 pm.
