NITTANY LIONS EDGE EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Wells College women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by the visiting Penn. St. Berks Nittany Lions in North Eastern Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Aurora. The Nittany Lions took two of three matches in doubles action and won three of the first five singles matches to seal the win.
 
Berks took the doubles round winning 8-4 and 8-3 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Express responded with an 8-6 win by doubles team Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) and Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) at No. 3 doubles, entering singles action down 2-1.
 
The Nittany Lions continued to build on their lead, earning victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, opening a 4-1 match lead. However, victories by No. 3 Lorina LaMier (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) and No. 4 Mindy Lamier (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) pulled the Express back to within one (4-3). The Nittany Lions sealed the victory with an 8-5 victory at No. 5 singles, earning the fifth and decisive point. Brittany Vanno rounded out the day with an 8-4 victory at No. 6 singles.
 
Wells returns to action next on April 21 when they travel to take on NEAC foe Keuka College at 4 p.m. in Keuka Park, N.Y.
