WOMEN’S TENNIS DROPS FINAL MATCH TO ALFRED

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team closed out their non-traditional season with a 7-2 loss to Alfred University on Monday afternoon in Aurora. Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.) and Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) each earned victories in singles action to pace the Express. With the loss the Express fall to 2-3 on the season while Alfred improves to 3-7.

Alfred took a 3-0 lead after the doubles flight concluded. Express tandem Chika Taguchi and Kate Ellis (Bloomfield, N.Y.) fell at No. 1 double 8-2 while Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Emma Martin (Concord, N.H.) fell 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Copfer and Vanno had one of the more exciting matches of the day at No. 2 doubles. Falling behind 5-1 to start, the doubles duo battled back to tie the match at 5-5 before falling 8-6.

Alfred took four of six singles matches to earn the victory. Copfer earned the victory at No. 3 singles (8-4), while Vanno earned the victory at No. 4 singles (8-5).

The Express will begin their traditional season in March when they open up North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
