OSWEGO NIPS EXPRESS

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Wells College women's tennis team came up short to the SUNY Oswego Lakers, losing 6-3. The Lakers won the singles competition overall winning four out of six matches, and also in the doubles competition, winning two out of 3 matches to help to propel them to a victory over the Express.

The Express came out strong, taking a commanding lead in the No. 1 single which was led by freshmen Kate Ellis (Bloomfield, N.Y.) over Oswego's Nicole Leader (Baldwinsville, N.Y). However, the Lakers would not be discouraged and Hannah Rawlings (Ithaca, N.Y.) responded by defeating the Express in the second match. Chika Taguchi (Hyogo, Japan) would help to weather the storm by coming up with the second win for the Express.

The Lakers would make their move and pull away during doubles, where they were able to steal a match to lead them to an overall 2-1 victory. Ellis and Taguchi were able to team up and find their only win in the doubles in defeat against the Lakers.

Ellis and Taguchi both had their handprints all over the competition today, but it would not be enough to come out with a win over the Lakers.

The Express will return to home to host Alfred University on Saturday September 24 at noon.
