Kucewicz, Martin Lead Express Past Daemen College, 6-3

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Emma Martin (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Kailin Kucewicz (West Valley, N.Y.) were undefeated in both singles and doubles play as the Wells College women's tennis posted a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats of Daemen College Sunday afternoon at the Wells College Tennis Courts. The Express (1-3) collect their first victory of the fall season in addition to the first collegiate coaching victory in the career of Head Coach Dan Sullivan. The Wildcats, a first-year program, fall to 0-3 on the season.

Martin collected a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles prior to teaming up with senior Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.) at No. 2 doubles and posting an 8-4 victory. Kucewicz silenced Daemen's Sassy Fernandez at No. 5 singles, posting set scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Kucewicz partnered with freshman Britney DeSouza (Bronx, N.Y.) for the 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles, the first career doubles victories for DeSouza and Kucewicz. Pietruch also swept her matches on the afternoon, posting a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.

Senior captain Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.) collected a 6-3, 6-0 victory in No. 2 singles, defeating Aman Shamaa in the process. Daemen was able to capitalize at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as Shaylah Iverson defeated Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) in singles action and Copfer and Vanno in doubles. Katey Portner was able to edge out DeSouza in the final singles match of the afternoon, posting a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win to round out the afternoon's action.
