Women’s Tennis Topped By Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Junior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) recorded a victory in No. 2 singles, but the Wells College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Keuka College Storm Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-4 in the fall season while the Storm improve to 2-0.

With a first set victory of 6-4 by Vanno, her opponent at No. 2 singles, Hailey Roth, notched a 6-2 victory to force a decisive third set. Vanno came through with the 10-8 decision, recording her first singles victory of the season. After posting a 6-4 loss in the first set against Emily Knapsack, senior captain Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.) rebounded with a 6-4 equalizer in the second set before falling 10-4 in the tiebreaker.

The tandem of Vanno and Copfer were competitive at No. 1 doubles, but the Storm squad of Knapsack and Roth squeaked by with an 8-6 victory. Senior Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and her partner, classmate Emma Martin (Concord, N.H.), also fell by an 8-6 score to Danielle Delgatto and Sarah Schneider at No. 2 doubles.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Ithaca College for a 2:00 p.m. match.
