Lakers Race Past Women's Tennis 8-1

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Despite a victory at No. 3 singles by senior Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.), the Wells College women's tennis team was defeated by the Lakers of Oswego State University by an 8-1 margin Monday afternoon at the Romney Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-6 overall on the season while the Lakers improve to 2-8 following the non-conference  contest.

Pietruch defeated her opponent, Hannah Rawlings, by 6-2, 6-2 set scores. The win was her second singles victory of the season and her eighth career victory in singles play. Senior Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.) kept her No. 1 single match close in both sets, but ultimately fell by a 6-2, 6-3 score to Nicole Leader in the top singles position.

Copfer partnered with junior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) at No. 1 doubles, but ultimately dropped an 8-3 decision to the tandem of Leader and Kelsey Wilson.

The Express conclude their fall calendar of matches Saturday, Oct. 6 against Ithaca College on the road in a 2:00 p.m. tilt.
