Women's Tennis Blanks Cazenovia, 9-0

MANLIUS, N.Y. – For the second straight year, the Wells College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over the Wildcats of Cazenovia College. With a win in their match played Saturday at the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, the Express improve to 2-6 overall on the year and to 1-0 against North Eastern Athletic Conference competition in 2014.

With their 10th victory all-time against Cazenovia (10-0-1), Wells remains undefeated against the Wildcats. Dating back to the 2011-12 women's tennis season, the Express have lost only two matches during the regular season in 14 total league contests.

The tandem of senior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) had a strong performance at No. 1 doubles, defeating Brianna Davis and Kate Natke by an 8-0 margin. Sophomore Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) and classmate Miku Kugo (Toyota, Aichi, Japan) partnered for an 8-1 defeat of Emily Evans and Mikayla Glade at No. 2 doubles. Cazenovia did not produce a doubles opponent for the Express in the No. 3 slot, resulting in a forfeit win for Wells.

Vanno was able to dispatch Natke at No. 1 singles via scores of 6-2, 6-3 while Kugo set down Davis at No. 2 singles, 6-0 and 6-4. Heath remained perfect on the afternoon, registering a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Evans at No. 3 singles while Benedetto also chipped in with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Glade in the No. 4 slot. Sophomore Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) blanked Gabriella Fuco-Domenica, 6-0, 6-0 to secure the 9-0 sweep for the Express. The Wildcats forfeited No. 6 singles to the Express.

The Express return to action Monday, Apr. 7 as they host the Lakers of Oswego State College in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the Wells College Tennis Courts.
