Streak Ends For Women's Tennis In 8-1 Loss To Penn St.-Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Wells College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington on Saturday. The Express, who entered the match with an unblemished North Eastern Athletic Conference record, fall to 5-1 within league play while the Nittany Lions captured the NEAC West Division Regular Season title with a 6-0 record against conference opponents.

The tandem of senior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) picked up a hard-fought 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles for their team's lone win of the day. Two of Wells' singles matches went the distance as Miku Kugo (Toyota, Aichi, Japan) battled her counterpart at No. 2 singles to a 7-5, 4-6, 5-7 loss before sophomore Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) fought her No. 4 singles opponent to a 6-1, 2-6, 1-6 defeat.

Wells has qualified for the North Eastern Athletic Conference postseason and will compete at the two day NEAC Divisional Tournament starting on Thursday, Apr. 24 at the Birchwood Tennis Club in Clarks Summit, Pa.
