Women's Tennis Downs Lancaster Bible, 8-1

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Wells College women's tennis team remained undefeated within North Eastern Athletic Conference play with an 8-1 victory over league-rival Lancaster Bible College on Friday at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex. Wells moves to 4-6 overall on the season and to 3-0 within conference play while Lancaster Bible dips to 0-5 following their first NEAC match of the year.

Wells now boasts 19 victories in their last 22 North Eastern Athletic Conference tennis matches dating back to a 5-4 victory over Penn St.-Harrisburg on Mar. 31, 2012.

Senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) and junior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) improved to 3-0 within NEAC play at No. 1 doubles, defeating their Chargers counterparts by an 8-4 score. Wells earned their second doubles victory at No. 3 doubles as freshmen Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) earned the 8-3 win to elevate Wells to 2-1 entering singles play.

Heath rebounded from a hard-fought singles loss the day before to post a 9-8 win at her team's top singles position while Benedetto had a clean match, recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Maturine and freshman Danielle Bautista (Moorpark, Calif.) earned back-to-back wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while sophomore Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) and Wells cruised to singles victories at No. 5 and No. 6.

The Express return to action Saturday, Apr. 11 as they face-off against Penn St.-Berks in their third match in as many days. Scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., Wells will look to avenge their 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Nittany Lions in the 2013 NEAC West Division Tournament Finals.
