Women's Tennis Halted By Penn St.-Berks, 7-2

READING, Pa. – The Wells College women's tennis team posted their first North Eastern Athletic Conference loss of the year, falling to Penn St.-Berks by a 7-2 score on Saturday at the Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. Wells dips to 4-7 on the year and to 3-1 within league play, losing their first NEAC regular season match since Apr. 19, 2014 versus Penn St.-Abington.

Penn St.-Berks, the runners-up in last year's North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Championship match, moves to 2-9 on the year and to 1-1 within conference play. Wells has lost for only the fourth time in regular season conference play dating back to the 2011-12 season.

The Express found themselves in an early hole as Penn St.-Berks powered past Wells with 8-0 shutouts at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The tandem of Nandita Munindra and Lexi Vidal narrowly pulled put an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Nittany Lions, but senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) and junior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) battled to an 8-1 defeat.

Down 3-0 entering singles play, Wells saw victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles from Heath and freshman Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.), respectively. Heath set down Munindra 6-3, 6-2, while Maturine collected the easy 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Wells returns to action this Friday, Apr. 17 as they welcome Penn St.-Abington to campus at 3 p.m. The Express host Bryn Athyn the next day, Saturday, Apr. 18, at 1 p.m.
