Maturine Named NEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Freshman Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her strong performance with the Wells College women's tennis team this past week.

Playing in three-straight matches on the road in as many days, Maturine's strong performances at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles elevated the Express to a 2-1 record with 8-1 victories against Penn College on Thursday and Lancaster Bible on Friday before falling to Penn St.-Berks on Saturday. The first-year tennis player went 3-0 in singles play before racking up a 2-1 record in doubles play after partnering with classmate Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.).

Versus Penn College, Maturine helped the Express to an 8-2 win in doubles play before shutting down her opponent by a 6-0, 6-1 score. The next day against Lancaster Bible, Maturine and Wells posted an 8-3 victory prior to a 6-4, 6-0 win in singles play. An 8-0 loss at No. 3 doubles against Penn St.-Berks did not slow down Maturine, who defeated her counterpart 6-2, 6-1 for her fourth-straight NEAC singles victory at No. 3 singles.

For her career, Maturine sports a 5-5 singles record and earned her third doubles victory against Lancaster Bible. She is also a member of the women's basketball team at Wells.

Wells returns to action this Friday, Apr. 17 as they welcome Penn St.-Abington to campus at 3 p.m. The Express host Bryn Athyn the next day, Saturday, Apr. 18, at 1 p.m.
