Women's Tennis Cruises Past Bryn Athyn, 9-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Bryn Athyn College Saturday afternoon at the Wells College tennis courts. With the victory, Wells moves to 5-8 overall and to 4-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Bryn Athyn falls to 1-6 overall and to 1-4 on the year within conference play.

Wells was up 3-0 exiting doubles play as junior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) and senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) defeated their No. 1 doubles counterparts by an 8-3 score. Sophomore Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) and freshman Danielle Bautista (Moorpark, Calif.) followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before freshman Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and classmate Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Heath captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles while Benedetto shut down her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 flight. Maturine secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles before Bautista racked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Sanborn and Wells, playing at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, earned 6-0, 6-0 wins to round out the day for the Express.

Seniors Heath and Victoria Candida (Schenectady, N.Y.) are the team's lone graduating student-athletes. They were honored with a match program that can be found here.

Wells heads to Keuka Park, N.Y. this Sunday, Apr. 19 to face-off against Keuka at high noon. The match was originally scheduled for Apr. 4 but inclement weather forced its postponement.
