Season In Review: Wells College Women's Tennis
Throughout the summer of 2015, the Wells College Department of Athletics website will look back at the "year that was". Starting with men's lacrosse on Thursday, June 11, a comprehensive "season in review" for each of Wells' 14 NCAA Division III varsity sports will be posted, giving fans not only a look back but also a look forward to the upcoming season of play.

Despite a tough loss in the team portion of the North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Women's Tennis Tournament, the Wells College women's tennis team dominated the individual portion of the tournament and claimed the top three singles flights and No. 1 doubles in late April. The team also had its first NEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, capping off the most successful season in recent memory.

- "TARYN IT UP": Senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) won both matches in the No. 1 singles competition at the North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Individual Tennis Tournament, becoming the first player in program history to win NEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors. She became only the fifth student-athlete in Wells College history to earn the league's Player of the Year award across all sports.
- CAREER RETROSPECTIVE: Graduating from Wells early and playing only in the spring semester, Heath still managed to post an impressive 15 singles victories across her three-year women's tennis career. Furthermore, her 21 doubles victories in 33 matches (21-12, .636) rank her within the top-10 in team history.
- SHE'S NO. 1: Junior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) not only secured First Team All-Conference honors after winning the No. 2 singles competition, but she also partnered with Heath to win the No. 1 doubles championship. She edged her counterpart 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round before shutting down Amanda Shulski by the same margin to earn Wells' second-ever individual championship at No. 2 singles.
- RISING SENIOR: A rising senior, Benedetto boasts 23 doubles victories in her career. Using reliable statistics kept since 1991, she trails only Ana Lucia Riley '11 and Brittany Vanno '14 who each own 24 doubles wins within the NCAA Division III-era of Wells athletics (1986-present). Antoinette Ptak '84 has the most doubles victories on record with 28, but statistics from the 1970's and 1980's are incomplete.
- NO. 3 SINGLES: Freshman Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the NEAC Individual Championship at No. 3 singles. She battled Liz Kurtz from Penn St.-Berks to a three-set victory (6-3, 1-6, 10-5) in the opening match before powering her way to the No. 3 singles individual championship, 7-5, 6-0, defeating Keuka's Savannah Fuller.
- NOTHING "REGULAR" ABOUT IT!: Since the 2011-12 season, the Express have posted a 21-5 record in the regular season against conference opponents. In the 2014-15 regular season, Wells posted a 34-8 (.810) NEAC record at singles play while turning in a 14-7 mark (.667) in conference doubles matches.
- WHAT A STREAK!: Across a three-match winning streak from Apr. 1 to Apr. 10, Wells posted a 9-0 victory against St. Elizabeth before back-to-back 8-1 wins against Penn College and Lancaster Bible, winning by a combined 25-2 margin.
