Women's Tennis Edged By Oswego St., 5-4

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Despite an early 2-1 lead after doubles play, the Wells College women's tennis team posted a close 5-4 loss to the Lakers of Oswego State University on Tuesday. With the loss, the Express open their non-traditional season with an 0-1 record while the Lakers pick up their first win in two matches.

The tandem of senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) and sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) raced out to an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles while junior Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) and senior Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) snuck past their No. 3 doubles opponent by an 8-3 score.

Benedetto kept up her strong performance at the top singles flight, setting down her opponent 6-3, 6-2. Hunt also posted an extremely strong comeback after losing the first set 6-0, rallying to post back-to-back 6-3 set scores to defeat her No. 3 singles opponent. The remaining Wells players, however, were unable to eke out a victory that would tip the scales in their team's favor.

Wells welcomes Fredonia State to campus next Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. for the team's second non-conference match of the year.
