Benedetto Earns NEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) has been chosen as the North Eastern Athletic Conference West Division Women's Tennis Player of the Week after a strong performance in her team's recent 6-3 victory over Utica, the league office announced Tuesday.

Benedetto picked up a pair of victories to spark the Express to the win over Utica, whom Wells has defeated in 10 of its last 11 matchups. To open the match, Benedetto partnered with sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to pick up an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Later, Benedetto defeated her No. 1 singles opponent via retirement.

Benedetto concludes the fall season with a 3-0 individual record at Wells' top singles flight while joining Maturine with an unblemished mark (3-0) in No. 1 doubles play. Last season, Benedetto claimed the NEAC West Division Championship at No. 2 singles and enters the upcoming spring season as her team's No. 1 singles entry.

For her career, Benedetto boasts an impressive 21-13 career record (.618) in singles play. Competing in doubles, Benedetto has 26 career wins (26-21, .553) to place her alongside elite company - Antoinette Ptak '84 racked up at least 28 wins for the Express in her four-year career, but statistics from Ptak's era are not complete.

The Express will return to action on March 19, 2016 as they face-off against Houghton at 1 p.m.

Beginning with the 2010 season, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has partnered with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in the sport of men's and women's tennis. The NEAC will compete as associate members of the NAC in men's tennis, while the NAC will compete as associate members of the NEAC in women's tennis.

Members from each conference will be divided into an East and West Division for each sport, with each division holding a championship and the two divisional champions then facing off to determine the conference champion. The conference winner for each sport will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
