Women's Tennis Defeated By Penn St.-Berks, 5-4

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team was set down by the Nittany Lions from Penn St.-Berks by a 5-4 score on Saturday. With the loss, Wells falls to 4-6 overall on the year and to 3-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Penn St.-Berks moves to 4-7 while remaining undefeated in four league matches. 

Wells picked up an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and classmate Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.). At No. 1 singles, senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) dispatched her opponent by a 6-3, 6-2 score while sophomore Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) secured a 6-0, 6-4 win. 

Yuna Furusawa (Hirakata, Osaka, Japan) rallied for a three-set victory at No. 5 singles despite falling into an early 6-4 hole. Furusawa posted a 6-0 second set score and won the third and final set by a 10-6 score. 

Prior to the match, seniors Benedetto and Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) were presented with framed pictures on Senior Day, commemorating their four-year careers in a Wells uniform. 

Wells returns to action Wednesday, Apr. 20 as it hosts Keuka at 3 p.m. in Aurora.
