AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's tennis team broke the program record for career doubles victories on Wednesday as the Express set down Keuka College by a 6-3 margin. Wells moves to 5-6 overall and to 4-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Keuka drops to 2-7 and 2-3 within league play.

With a career doubles record of 29-26, Benedetto has eclipsed Antoinette Ptak '84 who recorded at least 28 doubles wins from 1980 to 1983. While statistics from the early 1980's are considered partially incomplete, Benedetto is far and away the doubles wins leader for Wells in the NCAA Division III era (1986-present).

Benedetto began her day by partnering with Yuna Furusawa (Hirakata, Osaka, Japan) at No. 1 doubles, collecting an 8-4 win, before moving on to defeat her top singles counterpart by a 6-1, 6-0 margin. A senior captain, Benedetto now boasts 28 singles wins in her career, trailing former teammate Caitlyn Copfer '13 by only two wins for second place all-time.

Junior Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) would join sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 3 doubles, earning an 8-2 win, before powering to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Wells has won four of her last five singles matches and, partnering with Maturine, has also secured three-straight wins at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) would edge her No. 3 singles opponent, 6-1, 6-0, before Furusawa would secure a decisive 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 5 singles. Junior Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) opened up a quick 7-5 lead over her No. 4 opponent, but lost the final two sets (6-2, 10-4) in a hotly-contested match.

Wells has won 13 of the last 23 meetings between the two programs and Wednesday's victory marks the 25th regular season conference victory for the Express across its last 32 league matches.

The Express will look to finish the regular season strong this Saturday, Apr. 23 as it will take on Penn College at home – the match will begin at high noon in Aurora.
