Yui Omachida Earns All-NEAC Honors In Tennis

Yui Omachida (front row, left) of the Wells College women's tennis team earned all-conference honors by finishing third in the fourth-singles flight at the North Eastern Athletic Conference individual championships on Sunday, April 30. The championship tournament was hosted by the conference at Birchwood Tennis Club in Clarks Summit, Pa.

Omachida was one of four Wells players to qualify for the singles brackets. She opened play on Sunday morning with a loss in the semifinal round against Laura Youwakim of Penn State Berks by a 6-1, 7-6 score. Omachida then won her consolation match in the fourth doubles bracket by an 8-5 score over Kayla Weaser of Lancaster Bible College.

It is the ninth consecutive year that Wells has had at least one player or doubles team earn all-conference honors at the championship tournament.

Three other Wells players were seeded fourth in their respective singles brackets and lost in their semifinal and consolation matches. Nicole Sanborn competed at second singles, Aala Al-Hashimi played at fifth singles, and Nao Shimada played at sixth singles.

In Saturday's action, the third doubles team of Aala Al-Hashimi and Nao Shimada fell in the semifinal match to a team from Penn State Berks by an 8-1 score and dropped the consolation match 8-3 against a pairing from Lancaster Bible College.
