Express Downed By Hawks, 3-0

HAMBURG, N.Y. - Despite a team-best four kills from freshman Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.), the Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 loss (25-12, 25-9, 25-15) to the Hawks of Hilbert College Wednesday evening at the Hafner Recreational Center. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-7 overall on the season while the Hawks improve to 4-1 overall on the year.

For the Express, Butts led all Wells College players with four kills to her credit. She was also the lone player on the squad to post a positive hitting percentage. Setter Taryn Heath (Homer, N.Y.) set up seven of the Express' 11 kills to lead the team in that category while freshman Katie Curtin (Cassville, N.Y.) posted a team-best six digs to her credit.

As a team, the Hawks hit a collective .340 (24 kills/53 total attacks) as Rachel Kwiatkowski posted a team-best seven kills to her credit. Five different players tallied four or more digs for Hilbert, inclduing Chelsea Reischuck who posted eight. Shannon Memminger assisted on 17 kills for the Hawks to lead the team in that category.

The Express return to action Sunday, Sept. 16 as they travel to face-off against the Cougars of Misericordia University in a 12:00 p.m. tilt.
