Women’s Volleyball Drops 3-0 Contest To Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Freshmen Leilani Yasutake (Germantown, N.Y.) and Courtney Wein (Martville, N.Y.) each led the team with three kills apiece as the Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-9, 25-13) to the Storm of Keuka College in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening. The Express fall to 2-24 overall on the season and to 1-8 within conference play. The Storm improve to 19-6 overall and rank second in the NEAC with an 8-1 record.

As a team, the Express posted only nine kills in 82 attacks, a season low mark. Outside of Yasutake and Wein's six total kills, freshmen Katie Curtin (Cassville, N.Y.) and Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) posted totals of two and one, respectively. Taryn Heath (Homer, N.Y.), the primary setter for the Express, chipped in with eight assists while libero Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) and Curtin posted 10 and 13 digs, respectively.

The Storm hit a collective .313, hammering home 36 kills while committing only 10 miscues on offense. Paige Golden notched 10 kills while Jill Nolan assisted 26 Storm kills. Taylor Smith posted 12 digs defensively while Golden also accumulated 11 digs herself. Seven Storm service aces also helped Keuka set down the Express in three sets.

The Express return to action Friday, Oct. 19 as they face-off against Lancaster Bible College on the road in a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
