Women’s Volleyball Silenced To Conclude Oswego St. Invitational

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Opponents limited the Express to a negative attack percentage across two matches as the Wells College women's volleyball team posted back-to-back 3-0 losses to the host Lakers of Oswego State College and the Saints of St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the losses, Wells has dropped seven-straight games and falls to 1-8 overall on the year.

Freshman Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts across the four matches on the weekend. In 12 sets played, Kadjeski racked up 28 kills alongside only nine errors for a .226 hitting percentage – her 2.33 kills per set rank her first amongst all qualifying players from the Express this weekend while her seven total blocks place her first on the team.

Against the host Lakers of Oswego State, Wells dropped three-straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. Junior Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Ka'paa, Hawaii) led the way with eight kills to her credit, hitting at a .161 clip with 31 total attacks. Her 11 digs ranked her second on the team behind libero Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) who posted 12. Setter Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) assisted 22 of her team's 27 kills on the afternoon.

Oswego State was led by Megan Russell's 11 kills in the winning effort. Two setters reached double-digit assist totals as Lauren Edwards and Lindsey Champitto combined for 29 assists while Sarah Meredith recorded 15 digs defensively in the victory.

Against St. Lawrence in the second match on the afternoon, Wells was held to single-digit point totals in two of the three sets and fell by set scores of 25-9, 25-7 and 25-13. Sophomore Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) led her team with three kills for the Express. Heath assisted five of her team's seven total kills and libero Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) accumulated seven digs in the match.

St. Lawrence committed only five errors on the afternoon and hit a collective .416 as a team, the highest attack percentage ever recorded by a Wells opponent in the modern day era of volleyball in Aurora. Nine of Lexi Brown's 17 total attacks landed for kills as she was errorless on the afternoon. Anna Kassab assisted a team-leading 15 kills while contributing six service aces. Defensively, Mariah Dignan and Katie Prue each posted eight digs to lead the way for the Saints.
