AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over the Wolfpack of Keuka College on Tuesday evening at the Farenthold Athletic Wing. With the win, the Express improve to 21-10 overall and to 10-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Needing a victory to claim the NEAC regular season title, the Wolfpack fall to 13-13 overall on the year and to 10-2 within the league.

With the win, the Express have locked up the No. 2 seed in the conference. The host Gallaudet University Bison (11-1 NEAC) claimed up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament, having defeated the Express in straight sets earlier in the year. After earning a bye to the NEAC Semifinals, Wells will play the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 3 Penn St.-Berks Nittany Lions (10-2 NEAC) and the No. 6 SUNYIT Wildcats (7-5 NEAC).

Junior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) led the Express with 16 kills offensively, committing only three errors in 33 total attacks for a team-best .394 hitting percentage. Setter Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) assisted 37 of her team's 50 kills while freshman Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) led the way with 17 digs defensively.

With the score tied at 23 aside in the first set, Wells pulled away after a Keuka service error and a kill from sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), set up by Heath. Leading by a 18-15 margin in the second set, an extended stoppage in play led to six-straight points by the Wolfpack to grant them a lead that they would not relinquish. Despite back-to-back Express kills at 24-19, an attack error by Wells evened the match score at one aside.

With Keuka leading 21-18 in the third set, Wells came roaring back to the score the set's next seven points to capture the victory. Nettles took over the match during this span, hammering home four kills alongside a service ace by senior Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii). An attack error by Keuka elevated the Express to the 2-1 match lead.

Keuka once again had a large lead in the fourth set, opening up an 18-13 lead after several attack errors by the Express. However, Keuka committed four-straight attack errors before a Nettles kill placed Wells on top by a 19-18 margin. However, the Wolfpack came roaring back after several Wells miscues to take a 22-20 lead. Back-to-back kills from Tally McDonald and Sam Thrasher placed the visitors up by a 24-22 margin, but Wells used a Leite-Ah Yo kill and a service ace by freshman Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) to tie the set up at 24. A kill from freshman Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) and an attack error by Keuka wrapped up the 3-1 victory for the Express on their home court, upon which they conclude the regular season with a 6-1 record.

Devan Curtis led the way for Keuka with 16 kills and a .317 hitting percentage. Julia Coryell set up 14 of her team's 40 kills while Kaitlin Burke registered 17 digs defensively. Alyssa Walruth hammered home a team-leading five service aces for the Wolfpack, who hit a collective .082 on the match (40-28-147).

In a pre-match ceremony, seniors Heath and Artaho-Aki were honored and recognized for their lengthy contributions to the program during their years with the team.

The Express conclude their regular season this Saturday, Nov. 1 as they face-off against La Roche and Pitt.-Bradford on the latter's campus beginning at 3 p.m.
