Women's Volleyball Completes Perfect Weekend With Pair of Wins

The Wells College women's volleyball team completed a perfect 3-0 weekend with victories on Saturday, Sept. 10 at home over Clarks Summit University and the University of Maine-Fort Kent at the Schwartz Center. With three victories on the weekend, Wells improved its record to 4-3 on the season. The Express begins North Eastern Athletic Conference action next weekend with matches against St. Elizabeth, Bryn Athyn and Penn State-Abington on Saturday and Sunday at Bryn Athyn.

Wells 3, Clarks Summit 1

The Express defeated Clarks Summit by scores of 25-9, 25-19, 19-25, 25-12. Wells cruised in the first set, including a 10-point run in the early going behind the serving of Kelly McLaughlin. Wells had 11 kills and just one error in the opening set and hit .455.

The second set was a little closer, and Wells pulled hit .286 with seven kills and one error on 21 attacks. After Clarks Summit won the third set, Wells closed out the match with 12 kills and three aces helping the team to win 25-12 in the fourth set.

A total of 15 different players appeared for Wells in the match. Jackie Allen led Wells with nine kills and she hit .389 for the match. Eliza Schwab had 26 assists along with four kills, seven digs, a service ace and two assisted blocks. Nadine Pershyn and Olyvia Brazier had six digs each. Amanda Springer had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. McLaughlin led the servers with four aces in the match.

Wells 3, Maine-Fort Kent 1

The Express dropped the first set then rattled off three wins in a row for the victory. Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-14. Wells got stronger as the match went on and particularly gained control in the third set that included 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

After the Panthers won the opening set, Wells trailed for most of the second set. Maine-Fort Kent had leads of 6-2 and 21-13, but Wells came back and won 12 of the final 14 points of the set to even the match.

Wells continued its momentum in the third set and built an early 10-2 lead. They cruised to a 25-13 win. The Express closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the final set.

In the match, Wells was led by 14 kills from Meredith Kadjeski and 13 from Jackie Allen. Kadjeski hit .423 in the match. Schwab had 38 assists. Pershyn led the team with 15 digs, Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 12 digs to go with seven kills and four service aces. Kadjeski and Haylee Ouellette had two block assists each and Amanda Springer had one solo block and one assisted block.
