Women's Volleyball Takes Pair of Non-Conference Wins

The Wells College women's volleyball team swept a pair of non-conference matches Saturday, Oct. 1 against Potsdam and Plattsburgh in an event hosted by Utica College. Wells pulled out a come-from-behind five-set win over Potsdam by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 25-15, 15-13. Later Saturday, Wells won in four sets against Plattsburgh by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 16-25, 25-19.

Wells has an 11-5 overall record through 16 matches this season. The Express returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week with a Tuesday night match at Keuka College.

Wells 3, Potsdam 2

Wells won the first set before dropping the second and third sets. The Express answered with a 25-15 win in the fourth set and edged the deciding set by a 15-13 score.

Wells hit .121 in the match, and turned momentum in their favor with a big fourth set that featured a .235 hitting percentage. Jackie Allen had 16 kills and six errors in 38 swings for a .263 hitting percentage. She led the team in kills and added one service ace, seven digs, a solo block and four assisted blocks. Olyvia Brazier had 11 kills, 31 digs and four service aces. Eliza Schwab had 45 assists as Meredith Kadjeski and Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo each added nine kills. Leite-Ah Yo had 22 digs and Nadine Pershyn had 17 digs.

Wells 3, Plattsburgh 1

The Express edged a 26-24 win in the first set and pulled out a 25-22 win in the second set. After Plattsburgh won the third, Wells closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. Wells had a .248 hitting percentage in the match with 52 kills and just 18 errors.

Meredith Kadjeski had nine kills, three solo blocks and one assisted block. Olyvia Brazier had 15 kills, Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 11 and Jackie Allen had 10 kills. Brazier led the team with 18 digs and three service aces.
