Women's Volleyball Wins At SUNY Poly

The Wells College women's volleyball team won its second-consecutive conference match as the Express won in four sets at SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Friday, Sept. 15. Set scores were 25-20, 17-25, 25-20, 29-27. The Express improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. SUNY Poly is 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC.

In the decisive fourth set, Wells led 23-20, but SUNY Poly ran off four consecutive points and served on set point, but a service error tied the score 24-24. The Wildcats also had set points at 25-24 and 26-25, but Wells won four of the next five points to wrap up the victory. Eliza Schwab had a kill on a tipped ball over the net that fooled the defense to give Wells a set point at 27-26. After Poly knotted another point, Wells closed it on a kill from Olyvia Brazier and an attack error from the Wildcats.

Wells hit .274 and won the first set 25-20. SUNY Poly took the second set. Wells came through in the third set and hit .412 with 17 kills and just three errors. That set up the back-and-forth final set that Wells pulled out in extra points.

Olyvia Brazier had 16 kills, Rachel Anderson added 10 kills, and Lakshmi Martin had nine kills with a .529 hitting percentage. Wells served five aces with two each from Jackie Allen and Amanda Springer. Eliza Schwab had 32 assists.

Defensively, Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 24 digs and Brazier had 18 digs. Anderson and Martin each had two block assists.

Both conference wins for Wells this week have come against NEAC North Division opponents the top-four teams in each division will qualify for the NEAC playoffs at the end of the season.

Wells is back in non-conference action Saturday, Sept. 16 at Keystone College with a match against the host Keystone Giants and another match against Gwynedd Mercy.
