Women's Volleyball Takes Thrilling Five-Set Win Over Morrisville

The Wells College women's volleyball team hosted matches Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Schwartz Athletic Center against Morrisville State College and Hamilton College. The day started with a matchup of top NEAC teams and Wells won a five-set match against Morrisville. Morrisville then defeated Hamilton College in five sets, and the day concluded with Hamilton defeating Wells in three sets.

Each team had one win and one loss on the day. Following all three matches, Wells has a 9-5 overall record and is 3-0 in the NEAC. Morrisville State is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the NEAC. Hamilton is 5-3.

Wells is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Cazenovia College in another NEAC match.

WELLS 3, MORRISVILLE 2

Wells moved into first place in the division with a 3-0 conference record. Set scores were 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13. Morrisville held leads of three points or more in each set, but Wells had set point in each set except the fourth. In the decisive fifth set, Wells won the final six points and took the victory in a matchup of NEAC North Division teams.

Morrisville State led 13-9 in the fifth set when Wells head coach Mark Lucas called a timeout. The Express answered with a sideout on a kill by Rachel Anderson. Cheyenne Nowalk served out the rest of the set, with three hitting errors from Morrisville and a bad pass contributing to the decisive run for Wells.

Rachel Anderson led Wells with 16 kills and she hit .314 in the match. Olyvia Brazier had 15 kills and Jackie Allen had 11 kills.

Eliza Schwab had 47 assists as Wells totaled 61 kills with just 21 hitting errors. Wells hit .216 for the match.

Four Wells players hit double-figures in digs as Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo totaled 23 digs, Olyvia Brazier had 19, Jackie Allen had 17 and Eliza Schwab had 17. Rachel Anderson had five block assiss and Lakshmi Martin and Amanda Springer each had four block assists.

HAMILTON 3, WELLS 0

The Continentals won by set scores of 25-20, 25-9, 25-15. Wells had just 27 kills and 21 hitting errors in the match. Eliza Schwab had 21 assists. Olyvia Brazier led Wells with nine kills. Rachel Anderson and Jackie Allen had six kills each.

Anderson and Amanda Springer each had two block assists. Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo led Wells with eight digs.

Hamilton hit .247 in the match with 30 kills and just 11 errors.
