Women's Volleyball Wins NEAC Playoff Game

The Wells College women's volleyball team advanced in the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs with a four-set victory over SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Schwartz Center in Aurora, N.Y. Set scores were 21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-19.

The Express advances to the NEAC women's volleyball semifinal round, hosted by Penn State Berks on Saturday, Nov. 4. The NEAC championship match will be at Penn State Berks on Sunday, Nov. 5. Wells is 19-12 overall and SUNY Poly finished its season with an 11-17 record.

Wells took a 6-2 lead in the first set, but SUNY Poly rallied and built a 22-15 advantage. The Wildcats closed out the first set 25-21.

The Express turned momentum in the second set. Wells hit .462 in the set with 14 kills and just two errors. Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had five kills in the set and Jackie Allen added four. The Express cruised to a 25-13 victory.

Early in the third set, Jordan Stoops went on a nine-point service run to give Wells a 14-4 lead. SUNY Poly rallied to close to an 18-15 score in favor of the Express. Four-straight points for Wells, including three consecutive service aces from Olyvia Brazier sent Wells to a 25-18 third-set win.

Wells closed things out in the fourth set behind five kills from Jackie Allen and four from Rachel Anderson.

Three players reached double-digits in kills for the Express as Rachel Anderson had 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Jackie Allen and Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo each had 12 kills. Wells hit .202 for the match with 49 kills and 23 errors in 129 swings.

Senior setter Eliza Schwab had 38 assists.

Wells served 10 aces in the match including three each by Eliza Schwab and Olyvia Brazier.

The Express totaled seven blocks. Amanda Springer had one solo block and three block assists. Lakshmi Martin and Rachel Anderson teamed up for two block assists each.

Brazier had 20 digs for the Express, Allen had 16, and Leite-Ah Yo had 14 digs. The Wells defense defended effectively and SUNY Poly hit .041 for the match.

Wells hosted a postseason match for the first time in modern program history. This is the fourth year in a row that Wells has made the NEAC playoffs and the second year in a row that the Express won its opening-round match.
