Split For Women's Volleyball On Day 1 At Cortland

The Wells College women's volleyball team started its 2018 campaign with one win and one loss on the first day of competition at the Red Dragon Classic at SUNY Cortland. Wells defeated Houghton College 3-1 in the opening encounter on Friday, August 31 and dropped a four-set match to Rowan in the second match of the day.

Wells continues tournament play Saturday at Cortland with a 10 a.m. match against Keene State and a 3 p.m. match against Fredonia State.

WELLS 3, HOUGHTON 1

Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21. Wells had a balanced attack as Lakshmi Martin and Jazzmyne Williams each slammed 11 kills. Rachel Anderson had nine kills and Jackie Allen had eight. Wells had 47 total kills and hit .217 for the match.

Jordan Stoops had 20 assists, Lorissa Parks had 18 assists and Gabby Rivera had seven.

The Express served 11 aces, led by five from Rivera. Jackie Allen had 14 digs and Williams had 13. Amanda Springer had one solo block and one block assist.

ROWAN 3, WELLS 1

Rowan won by set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 14-25, 25-17. Rachel Anderson and Jackie Allen had 15 kills each for Wells. Lorissa Parks had 25 assists and Jordan Stoops had 19. Allen served two aces and 16 digs. Nanako Otsuka and Jazzmyne Williams each had 11 digs and Cheyenne Nowalk and Parks each had 10 digs.

Amanda Springer had two solo blocks.
