NEAC Split For Women's Volleyball At LBC

The Wells College women's volleyball team split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference matches Saturday, Oct. 6 against other conference contenders on a crossover day hosted by Lancaster Bible College. In the first match of the day, Wells defeated Gallaudet in four sets. Lancaster Bible defeated Wells in three sets in the second match.

Wells is 10-9 overall and 5-2 in the NEAC. The Express stands tied for third in the NEAC standings, and has defeated both Gallaudet and Keuka, which also own 5-2 league marks. Morrisville State (5-0) and Lancaster Bible (6-1).

Wells continues conference play with a home match Friday, Oct. 12 against SUNY Poly at 7 p.m.

Wells 3, Gallaudet 1

Both middle sets went to extra points as Wells pulled out a four-set victory. Set scores were 25-20, 30-28, 24-26, 24-16 for the Express.

Rachel Anderson led Wells with 15 kills and a .387 hitting percentage with just three errors on 31 swings. Jackie Allen and Amanda Springer each had nine kills and Jazzmyne Williams had eight. Jordan Stoops had 25 assists and Lorissa Parks had 19 assists.

Springer was a defensive presence at the net with one solo block and five block assists. Maritza Scharoun had a solo block and three block assists. Williams and Allen each served two aces.

Allen and Nanako Otsuka led the Express with 15 digs each.

Lancaster Bible College 3, Wells 0

The host Chargers won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-21. Lancaster Bible hit .250 for the match including a .357 mark in the second set while Wells hit .051 for the match with 24 kills and 20 errors.

Anderson led Wells with eight kills. Allen had five kills and seven digs. Scharoun had one solo block and one block assist.
