Women's Volleyball Wins Conference Opener

The Wells College women's volleyball team opened conference play for the 2019 season with a three-set win over Keuka College on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-15, 25-16. It was the first North Eastern Athletic Conference match of the season for both teams.

Wells had a .258 hitting percentage in the match with 37 kills and 14 hitting errors. Jackie Allen had 15 kills and hit .355, and Jazzmyne Williams had 10 kills and hit .217. Jordan Stoops had 19 assists and Lorissa Parks had 13 assists.

The Express hit .346 in the first set and used a 5-1 run to take a 9-4 lead before taking the set 25-18. Wells started the second set with seven straight points and jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Keuka had a 7-5 lead early in the third set but Wells had five-straight points as part of a 7-1 run and later scored nine points in a row to take control of the clinching set.

Gabby Rivera led Wells with 12 digs and Lorissa Parks had seven digs. Jordan Stoops served three aces. Maritza Scharoun had one solo block and two block assists.

Wells is 2-10 overall and 1-0 in the NEAC. Keuka is 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC.

Wells is back in action this weekend with a Friday match at St. John Fisher College and matches vs. Northern Vermont-Johnson and D'Youville on Saturday, hosted by St. John Fisher.
