Women’s Volleyball Team Digs Deep Against Mustangs

The Wells College women's volleyball team fell to visiting SUNY Morrisville 3-0 on Sept. 25, but no before recording at least 20 points in each of the three sets.

The Express was within striking distance in each set all the way until the wire by collecting 22 points in the first and third sets and 20 points in the middle frame.

In the first set, the teams were tied 20-20 before the Mustangs took five of the last seven points. In the second set, the teams were tied 19-19 before Morrisville won six of the final seven points. In the third set, the teams were tied at 21-21 before the Mustangs took four of the last six points.

Jackie Allen led the attack for Wells with a dozen kills, while Jazzmyne Williams was not far behind with 10. Lorissa Parks had a team-high 19 assists and Jordan Stoops added 18.

Double-digit digs came from Gabby Rivera (19) and Allen (10), while Maritza Scharoun was in on three blocks (one solo). Rivera also led the team in aces with a pair.

The Express take to the road this Saturday, Sept. 28 with a matchup against Cobleskill State at 1 p.m.
