Women’s Volleyball Team Rallies Twice for Thrilling Five-Set Victory

The Wells College women's volleyball team returned to the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing gymnasium for the first time since 2019 and they didn't disappoint.

The Express took a thrilling five-set victory over visiting Medaille College on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Wells rallied twice after trailing by 1-0 and 2-1 set scores to take the match in a 3-2 final. Of the five sets, a marathon 32-30 fourth-set win propelled the Express to a fifth-set 15-11 victory.

Wells dropped its first set by a 25-19 score, but rebounded with a 25-20 second-set win to even the match at 1-1. The Mavericks took the third set by a 25-22 score before the Express finished strong with wins in the final two sets.

One player who helped the team rally was Sasha Lamoree, who had a team-high six service aces with four of those coming in an 8-0 start in the second set that propelled Wells to tie the match at 1-1. Lomoree also finished with a team-high 35 assists over the five sets.

Other team leaders included Lexi Carfi with 19 kills and Roosa Armstead-Lehti with 26 digs.

The women's volleyball team continues its homestand by hosting Elmira on Wednesday, Sept. 29 with a 7 p.m. start.
