STRONG SHOWING FOR WELLS CROSS COUNTRY IN TOUGH FIELD OF RUNNERS

Oswego, NY – The cross country team traveled to SUNY Oswego for the Oswego Lakers Invitational this weekend.  The Express competed against several competitive squads including the nationally ranked and reining NCAA Champions from SUNY Cortland. 

Freshman Brayden Shumski led the men's team for the second consecutive week.  In the field of 78 runners, Brayden crossed the finish line in 20th place with a time of 21:12 over a very fast and flat 6k course.  This was a 32 second improvement from last weekends race at SUNY IT.  Sam Share looked strong as he moved up the pack and placed 50th  with a time of 23:28 which was a 14 second improvement from last week.  Brandon Johnston was close behind in 53rd (24:09).  Evando Nascimento placed 63rd and showed a 1:42 second improvement from last week as he raced in with a time of 25:13.  Van Bucsko raced in at 78th (26:19) and Brian Corcoran placed 71st (26:49).  The men placed 6th out of the seven teams competing.  The Express finished 29 points ahead of Keuka College.

Ithaca College dominated the women's race with their large squad of over 20 runners.  Racing against 70 other women the Express were led by senior Kayleen Wilkinson's 49th place finish.  Kayleen raced over the 4.5k course in 21:39.  Sarah Brenner was our second lady across the line placing 59th (23:42).  Brittany Dennee completed her first collegiate race in 26:41 and placed 65th.   Sarah Deschenes ran stride for stride with Brittany and crossed the line three seconds behind in 66th (26:44).  Beth Cereo (30:24) and Beth Raymond (36:53) completed the Wells pack by placing 69th and 70th.  The women earned a spot in the team scoring for the second consecutive week. 

The Express will travel to Geneva, NY next weekend to compete at the Hobart Invitational.
