Women’s Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Award

NEW ORLEANS, La. – With a 3.378 grade-point average, the Wells College women's cross country team was designated as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic award winner this past Friday afternoon.

A total of 197 institutions that represent 39 different conferences compose the group. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the squad must compile a cumulative grade-point average of 3.10 or higher. The Express were the lone member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference to earn recognition on the exclusive list.

The Express also earned placement in the 2011 USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country list, posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.17 – Wells was the lone NEAC squad on last year's list as well.

For the first time in program history, the Express sent two women's cross country runners to the 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country Atlantic Regionals. Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) each competed in the regional competition, placing 112nd and 245th, respectively, amongst the field. Middlebrook, for the second-straight season, was tabbed as the NEAC Runner of the Year for her efforts in the 2012 NEAC Championship.
