Cross Country Teams Donate Athletic Clothes and Shoes

AURORA, N.Y. - The Wells College men's and women's cross country teams donated athletic clothing and shoes to the Southern Cayuga Junior/Senior High School late last month. The donations were accepted by Ms. Catharine Haight, the school's Director of Athletics and Assistant Principal.

The idea to give back to the local community was put forth by former Wells cross country Head Coach Julie Bailey almost three years ago. Since that time, senior Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) coordinates the team's various community service activities such as this. With the help of her teammates on both cross country teams, she was able to present the school with numerous garments to assist those in need.

In season's past, the Express teams have donated clothing and other athletic wear to schools in Geneva, but this year, the teams wanted to help out those in the Aurora community as well.

"I think it's really important for collegiate athletics to reach out to the local community, especially here in such a small community," remarked Lamanna. "This was an easy way for us to help kids in need."
