Women's Cross Country Takes Eighth At NEAC Championships

The Wells College women's cross country team took eighth place and two individuals claimed all-conference honors at the 2016 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa.

It was an identical eighth-place finish for Wells as the 2015 conference meet. Wells totaled 184 points, and finished six points better than ninth-place Bryn Athyn College and 11 points behind seventh-place SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Wells ran the six-kilometer course at Lancaster on a sunny, warm day. With a field that included 12 teams and 92 competitors.

Amanda Fastiggi was seventh overall with a time of 25 minutes, 44.26 seconds and earned All-NEAC First Team. The top-seven finishers were on the all-conference First Team, and the eighth-place through 14th-place runners were on the Second Team. Fastiggi has earned spots on the All-NEAC First Team in each of her first two seasons.

The runners who placed 15th-21st made up the Third Team, and one of those was Deaven Theriault, who took 17th overall with a time of 26:41.01. It was the third-career All-NEAC honor for Theriault who placed in the top seven in 2013 and 2014.

Three additional runners filled out the Wells lineup. Jenn VanWormer was 37th overall in 28:41.77, Rutsuko Ueda was 53rd in 20:36.73 and Rosalety Galea took 70th with a time of 35:10.61.
